Snowflake is a dedicated blue water cruising catmaran, fully equipped and prepared for circumnavigation, incorporating all the lessons we learned during our previous Pacific voyaging. Since 2017, she has benefitted from a total of € 50.000 Euro in comfort, safety and blue water upgrades to make her ready for family cruising in the South Pacific. Unfortunately illness at home has led to the decision to pospone our family’s planned circumnavigation for the timebeing. 

 

As in my professional snowboarding career, I have been meticulous in preparation and nothing has been left to chance. This is evident in the upgrades I installed within the last year which include; Watermaker, extended solar power, extra large house battery, backup autopilot, a/c, SSB radio with pactor 4 dragon, Iridium satellite phone, wifi antenna on mast, large LG tv, mast steps, bowsprit, electric winch, 2-blade folding propellers, high fiberglass davits, full cockpit enclosure, mosquito nets on all hatches and windows, scuba gear, delta drogue, lifeline netting, epirb and liferaft.

 

Snowflake is the popular 3 cabin Owners Version, stylishly designed and appointed, she boasts an incredibly roomy layout, with the open salon connectiong both hulls and tieing in the very large galley. Watertight collision bulkheads forward in both hulls are completely seperated from the rest of the boat for extra safety and the obvious build quality inspire total confidence..

Her wide beam means Snowflake is built to sail fast and comfortably. With her total of 6 sails, including 2 cruising spinnakers (with easy dousing socks), she is equipped and designed for long range tradewind sailing. The easy reefing downwind setup with both gennaker and headsail on whisker poles (all optimized for single handing) means she is also perfect for shorthanded sailing. 

Snowflake is perfectly equipped, meticulously maintained and is waiting for a lucky buyer in the hurricane free cruising paradise of Bocas del Toro on the Caribben side of Panama.

 

For the liveaboard cruiser with long term or blue water plans, this really is an opportunity not to be missed.

SNOWFLAKE is a very recent Admiral 40 built by Celtic Yachts (before: Admiral Yachts) in South Africa, where she was put in the water early 2014. Over 50 of thissuccesful design by Angelo Lavrano sail all over the world and are the favourites of many cruisers because of their high level of craftsmanship and love for detail. With her wide beam and streamlined hulls she sails excellently and the wide open layout inside give the feeling of an even larger boat. 

 

The first owner kept her in a marina in South Africa as a weekend boat (she was never chartered) until he crossed the Atlantic in 2017 and sailed to Trinidad. Here, we bought the boat and equipped her for long term and long distance cruising. We already crossed the South Pacific on a catamaran ten years ago, before the kids were born, which gave us the experience to choose the perfect boat this time and the knowledge to decide which systems were really required and, just as importantly, which were not. 

 

In 2018 we invested 6 months of work and over € 50.000 into the the 4 year old boat to make her ready for long term family cruising in the South Pacific. Subsequently, we then sailed her from Trinidad through the Southern Caribbean to Panama. The boat was last hauled out in March 2019 in Linton Bay Marina in Panama for a new antifouling. 

 

We especially love the roomy feeling of the boat, and especially open saloon layout. The galley is truly the heart of our boat, super important when cruising for any length of time. Most kitchens ashore do not enjoy the immense practicality of the galley on Snowflake. The layout is the favoured owners version. In the starboard hull, there is a large master bedroom aft, a navstation midships and large bathroom forward. On port side, there is an equally large aft bedroom, a guest bathroom midships and a guest cabin forward. The saloon table can be lowered and turns into a very large chill area or double bed, perfect for kids (or adults!) to spend hours playing or simply lounging around. Outside, under the high cockpit roof, is easy access stowage for all our water sports gear. Surfboards, kites and kiteboards, SUP‘s, waterskiing, snorkling gear etc. can be stowed in a protected environment out of the sun’s damaging UV.  

 

Collission bullkheads forward separate the accomodation from the bow compartment. In the unlikely event of any collision, the safety bulkheads ensure that any potential damage or water ingress, is contained. Snowflake sails realy well and she can be easily single handed day and night. We really like the optimized  downwind setup which can be either reefed or taken down very quickly by one person. With a total of 6 sails on board she is ready for any conditions.

 

To keep maintenance and weight low, we conciously did not add a generator. There is however, enough space in the eninge room to put one in. After removing the calorifier (all plumbing and wiring still in place), and the second of two Isotherm freezers and the microwave, SNOWFLAKE is now totally energy self sufficient with her upgraded 800 watts of solar and a 900 amps house battery bank. On night passage all instruments, the autopilot, radar and AIS combined only use 5 amps per hour. There is a brand new wind generator on board, but has not been  never installed because there is no real need for it. 

 

SNOWFLAKE is only for sale due to an unexpected illness in our family back home in Austria. We have reluctantly had to delay our plans for the Pacific for the foreseeable future. The boat has been meticulously maintained and optimized so that she is in amazing condition and ready to sail to the most remote places in the world today. A survey can be organized here in Panama but I do not believe it would dig anywhere near as deep as my own investigations carried out over the last 18 months.

 

The boat is located the in the hurricane free and beautiful cruising area of Bocas del Toro on the Caribbean side of Panama, a short 30 minutes flight from Panama City. Colon, the eastern entrance to the Panama canal and gate to the South Pacific, is an overnight sail away and the island paradise of  San Blas is a daysail from there. Going north, it is around 10 days to Florida in short hops along Isla San Andres, Isla Providencia, the Caymans and the west end of Cuba.

 

We would like to remain on board until early may 2019, but SNOWFLAKE is for sale as of now, can be seen and is ready for sea trial any time. We invite serious buyers to stay on board for a few nights and we will happily take the time to explain all details and systems to the buyer to make sure that he or she can make full use of this great boat from day one onwards!
